When Amanda Tate's "dead" husband Bailey shows up very much alive in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, he's eager to resume the life he's missed. The single thought of returning to Amanda kept Doctor Bailey Tate alive in the remote jungle where his plane went down.
But Amanda is not the sweet, submissive wife he left behind. She has a successful career as the host of a television baking show and is about to marry Bailey's ex-partner. Still, she finds herself struggling to resist Bailey's powerful male magnetism.
Bailey understands winning back Amanda's trust won't be easy but he's willing to do anything to earn back her love.
SINCE YOU'VE BEEN GONE earned a five-star rating when it was originally published. "A blast from the past. Very highly recommended," said one reviewer.
This revised and expanded edition promised even more romance and humor than the original.

The plot is right out of an old Doris Day movie. I saw this flick a few years ago and do not recall the name of the film. Day returns from the dead after 7 years. Her plane had crashed and she was stranded on a deserted island and presumed dead. She returns home and discovers that her husband is planning his wedding and that her kids have no memory of her. In this book, the roles are reversed. The hubby returns after 7 years in the jungle and finds that his wife is planning to marry his good friend and former business partner.Spoiler******************************************************
I thought this was good idea to borrow for a story, but I felt that it was short in the romance department. The wife's dilemma throughout the book was whom to choose---hubby or her fiance. When the hubby went missing and presumed dead, she was saddled with an enormous debt and was pregnant. He racked up a lot of debt with purchases that included a boat and a house before he died. He devoted a lot of his time towards building the medical practice he owned with his partner, and in doing so, he sacrificed time he could have spent with his wife. He was ambitious and fiscally irresponsible. His wife disliked those traits and resented him just before the accident.
The wife was a docile and mousy wife. They met in college and she put him through med school working as a data entry clerk.
They both matured significantly during the 7 years apart. He learned the concept of responsibility when he was stranded in the jungle and worked alongside the natives. After his plane crashed, he had a lot of time to ponder what he made of his life. He belatedly recognized his wife's sacrifices to put him through med school. He also realized he took her and their marriage for granted. He knew how selfish he had been and planned to make changes once he returned to his wife. The wife also underwent changes during this time. She learned to stand on her own; she became a confident, wealthy, and successful business woman. At the same time, she was also a single mom struggling to raise their daughter.
The hubby loved his wife very much throughout the book. She was in his thoughts the entire time he was in the jungle. He was still crazy about her when he showed up at her doorstep. His wife, on the other hand, did not share the same sentiments. She was confused and was still working on the partner selection process throughout most of the story. I thought this was the area that could have gone in a different direction. I also thought this was an odd trait for the confident and decisive woman she had become.
Granted, the hubby and wife were now different people; but could the wife's love for the hubby have diminished so much in 7 years? After all, they were supposedly in love (before the crash) and had been together since college. The hubby loved the old and new her without reservation. I didn't like the h waffling so much as to whom she would select throughout the story when the choice was obvious. The story could have focused on the two rebuilding their marriage as two different people who once shared a strong foundation instead of throwing in a fiance. I thought the fiance had too much of a presence and consumed too much of the heroine's thoughts. To me, she didn't appear to love her husband until the very end. It was obvious to him that she was his one and only, but she did not reciprocate his feelings. That was what was missing from the story. I didn't get the warm and fuzzy vibes that I got from her hubby. The h did not break off the engagement until the very end of the book and that is after she slept with her hubby. I thought she could have made that decision in the middle of the book. I would feel awful if my hubby took an entire book to choose me! I also thought she did not deserve her hubby.

Since You've Been Gone edition by Sandra Madden Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
Dr. Bailey Tate was irrepressible, irresponsible, and lovable to a fault. He left seven years ago for a two-week mercy mission in the rainforest. He was presumed dead in a plane crash -- how dare he show up a week before Amanda's wedding. It was only the memory of Amanda that kept him going these long years with the Yanomani Indians. His new eye patch only lends a rakish, dangerous air.
Amanda Meadows thinks that she has finally put the bad, confusing times behind her. She has a handsome fiancé, a flourishing career, and a well ordered life. Exactly the wrong time for a husband to turn up -- and hardly the time for the old magnetic pull toward Bailey to manifest itself. She's already lived through the despair of losing a passionate, all-consuming love. And she's engaged to Marcus Stone -- Bailey's former partner.
As a tropical storm blows in, Amanda finds herself confronting the past and the future with the man who stole her heart. Sharing a meal suddenly becomes difficult as Bailey's seething lustiness draws her. But she's not the same woman he knew. She's no longer the sweet, submissive wife that put him through med school. Bailey left behind marital problems, huge debt, and a pregnant wife. He came back to an engaged career woman with a national contract to roll out her cookie baking series from coast to coast.
SINCE YOU'VE BEEN GONE is a tingly, impossible, totally romantic tale that makes you feel good right down to the toes. This compelling tale rates tops for originality and delight. Bailey's spontaneity and Amanda's assertiveness provide a combustible plot certain to keep the pages turning. Very highly recommended.
